In the good old days, the lords summering

in the country paid peasants to beat the ponds

with branches all night so the frogs would stay

silent. Armstrong and Aldrin left snow angels

in moon dust. Foxes waited patiently around

the shoulders of the high born ladies drowning

with the Titanic. The emperor’s clockwork

nightingale sang only Top 40 Classic Rock.  […]
